What a wonderful difference we had in regards to weather today compared to last Tuesday. Last week we stood in very cold wind gusts and low temperatures, today was near 60°, a very welcome change for us and for those we serve on the street. Many of the homeless came to the shelter earlier than we've seen in recent months and I think their spirits were a little lighter, one gentleman asked if his fishing pole that he reluctantly gave up last fall for us to store was available. He wants his "walleye stick" to get back to fishing on the river, a good sign that winter is on the way out. The longer daylight hours and warmer temperatures may make their situations a little more tolerable. While it is unfortunate to know that a few folks are still without shelter of their own, it was good to see some people that we hadn't seen in a couple of months. It was good to know they are safe. We heard stories of hospitalizations, stories of medical problems that can't be treated effectively while living on the streets, stories of people surviving significant family dysfunction. Everyone has a story and we'll listen to anyone wanting to share. While the need for heavy coats, boots, gloves, etc. seems to have diminished, these people are always in need of a prayer. Please remember them.
